[JUMPS— his ears had been strained to every click and rustle behind him —and laughs over his shoulder and pushes the pose, flaring his wings wide to show those off too]
[ his wings fold up primly, as he rises up again to his feet. ]
Quite.
[ he finally really takes in how close they got to the lakeside. It looks much more bare than their last visit; the shapes taking clearer form as all abundance of flora and fauna has receded.
Which means crunchy leaves... he meanders over to Muffin, but stops to nab one that's been left as a skeletal imprint of its old self; a delicate lattice of dry gray veins on a stem. ]
It's sort of comforting, isn't it? With all the strange powers and demons at work around here... it's a relief to see time mark its passing beyond just our minds, and what we add to what's here.
[he gives the leaf a second look, examining it in that new light instead of as a simple pretty object. when he looks back to angel devil, the feathers in his hair and in his half-shift's ruff all fluff up unconsciously. fondly! quetzal is so smart and thoughtful...!]
Is, looking at it like that. Is so much happening all the time, but there's a whole world past us. Is still moving. Whole cycle still turning.
Where I was-- well, I've known a few places where that's not the case. And I really would always choose... ...this. Change, seasons... If I was told, take one, or the other.
...
Though... We'll see if I'm still singing that tune if our poor pretty lake ices over, hahahahah...
It's a real thing! Actually, I think I remember... back around Esto Gaza... the locals would make special footwear to do it using metal or animal bones. It was cold year-round on that whole continent, so in some places... there would always be water with ice.
Say there's someone you've been... playing some games together with... and one day, they played a little too rough. On purpose. ...Actually, a lot too rough. Now, you knew they COULD do this if they wanted, but you sort of thought... ...never mind that part, that's chaff to the real point.
Anyway, so... they've went ahead changed the rules of the game to something else. This was their choice. And it's a game you've played before plenty, you know the rules like the back of your hand--
...
What do you think? Make your move in the new game? Or stop playing with them anymore because they flipped the book around without warning and so... viciously? And... also.... ...It'll be REALLY unsatisfying if you do the second thing.
...the new game is definitely more... high-energy, high-stakes, high... risk. But it is. Still... fun.
And, yes, quitting the new rules feels like losing. And... like if you do... that how the last round ended is maybe going to start hurting a whole lot more than you thought...?
The old game was just, fine. But there was always something a little... not quite there. But now going back would feel insulting to both of you! And...
S.. some of the old game pieces broke. So it'll take work to play again.
For me, um... If I was playing with someone, and they started playing mean, I would take that as a sign that they don't really want to play anymore. Maybe there's new rules, but I would be worried about what's going to happen the next time they get sick of it.

...Nothing special. But it's interesting. Look, see? You can see the whole structure that supports it when it's alive...

Have lived in places with seasons, but never anywhere that gets that cold... Could ice skate. Is that a real thing?

It sounds so slippery! Must work if they do it, but I would have to use all my claws and tail not to fall over.

...hmhmhm... What do you think? With a little insurance from your favorite sorcerous Rose... maybe it won't be too scary~?
no subject
Maybe...! Would be safer than any helmet, shield, or training wheels.

You'll only fall if we'll have fun~.

Muffin, I have a question~. Maybe it'll sound a little odd, but would you hear it all the way through?

[stands on one foot, thinking...]
Why would it be unsatisfying to stop playing? Because you liked the old game or because quitting the new rules feels like losing?
