[ rushes to catch up after his too-slow start, and when he does, he spends a bit getting used to the new objective of successfully formation flying. it's tough, but... angel devil has now gone quiet with intense focus. ]
[it’s a good thing there’s nothing to run into in the sky with how often muffin’s looking over his shoulder. not just checking on his flight partner, that’d only take a glance, but more to watch angel devil fly.
when he does face forward again, it’s to sing a joyful assembly call for their mini flock of two]
[ angel devil locked in concentration in the midst of something complex and very kinetic that he's still trying to learn... that's like, peak smoulder without even trying to be doing one.
even with all that, though, he starts to flag again pretty soon, muscles at a point where they're rattling his shoulders and asking hey, why? at high volume. this is a little much for his stubbornly-maintained indoors constitution. ]
[ I'll be behind you, comes the telepathy cheat answer. They're drawing to the close! Of he can just get through that he will have successfully done this. ]
[dips his wings in a signal, understood! and starts circling for a good spot to land, slowing their speed and bringing them down lower. when they're not far above the ground he brakes hard, backwinging to stall and dropping down to the ground like a jump.
muffin considers that kind of landing easier and better looking than coasting down and landing at a run, but angel devil is a bigger bird... just in case, he's picked a spot without bushes or trees on the runway]
[ he mimics the way Muffin cut his momentum, though he ends up flap-flapping his wings way more than necessary-- and hot damn does he drop as instructed. Way too fast.
A few inches from the ground, he catches himself with a float. And properly, gently touches down. He leaves his wings open and wide to his sides, as he breathes heavily in the aftermath. ]
--Hah! Well! I may not be an experienced at this way of doing things but-- Hah, hah.. Per, perseverance and willpower through significant extertion is a skill I am not... unfamiliar with!
[he doesn't NEED help sitting down, but muffin's at his side, ready to assist! ...and ready to nestle himself under his wing as soon as the chance presents itself]
It was a great first go. You powered through! Other people would have stopped at hopping and flapping.
[ he's more tense being touched, post-flight; the usual very-orchestrated ways he'll beckon or greet cuddles are absent. That breathless feeling of high adrenaline and fast-prancing heartbeat... ugh. Right now, the transition from active to normal makes him feel extra unseemly, and any other presence beside him makes that feeling louder.
His wings are still held wide. Once they've got him sitting, he pats Muffin's upper arm in a 'need a lil space' gesture, and says, ]
[muffin's the opposite, he gets clingier and touchier the more excited he is, but he obeys without complaint. he chirps a small acknowledgement and hops away]
[he faces away or to the side to give angel devil a veil of privacy, but he's not unaware he's being watched. his tail flicks and curls shyly around his feet, and there's some flexes that aren't entirely useful for stretching his wings.]
[ he takes the chance to sneak out his compact, casting plenty of lingering stray glances while making sure he's looking a good kind of windswept. there's a little plastic click when he closes it. ]
[JUMPS— his ears had been strained to every click and rustle behind him —and laughs over his shoulder and pushes the pose, flaring his wings wide to show those off too]
[ his wings fold up primly, as he rises up again to his feet. ]
Quite.
[ he finally really takes in how close they got to the lakeside. It looks much more bare than their last visit; the shapes taking clearer form as all abundance of flora and fauna has receded.
Which means crunchy leaves... he meanders over to Muffin, but stops to nab one that's been left as a skeletal imprint of its old self; a delicate lattice of dry gray veins on a stem. ]
